March 2011 Raffle Winner – Number 4!

Hello Cricut fans!

Have you ever been less than satisfied with the titles or quotes on your scrapbook pages?  I know I have.

There were plenty of times where I couldn't think up any witty quotes and just ended up putting a bland title on the page.  That is until I found this scrapbooking expressions ebook.

With this great resource, you'll never be short of witty, heartwarming and funny titles, quotes or captions for your scrapbook pages or cards.

For example, instead of pasting "Dad" on a scrapbook page about your father, why not have something witty like:

"Beautiful young people are acts of nature; beautiful old people are works of art."

The ebook comes with over 5,000 scrapbooking expressions, including titles, words, sayings, phrases, captions, quotes & idea's.  And with over 100 different categories, you'll never run out of ideas.

Here are a few samples from the Age/Aging category...

* 40 isn't old if you're a tree.
* Don't criticize the coffee - you may be old and weak yourself someday.
* Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
* You know you're old when "getting a little action" means your prune juice is working.
* At my age happy hour is nap time.

I highly recommend you get a copy if you want quality titles, captions and quotes for your scrapbook pages and cards:

The February contest for best page using the "Scrapbooking Bible" ended last week and we got some amazing submissions from all of you!

Unfortunately, there can only be one winner, and she is...

Cindy U. from Independence, Kentucky

cindy-055-small

She created a 3rd birthday page for her grandson, Logan.

Cartridges used:
Doodlecharms

A Child's Year
Stretch Your Imagination
Plantin

For inspiration, Cindy used sketch #055 from page 16 in the "Scrapbooking Bible":

055

She sent me an email about how she was so excited to use the guide and that she finished a page faster than she thought possible!

I received my 500 Scrapbook Sketches last week and have been itching to try it out.  My previous scrapbook project was a 8 x 8  album and it took over 15 hours to do 5 pages.  I was happy with the results but who has that kind of time?

So when I read about these sketches, I got excited.

This morning I had 4 hours before I had to go to work so with only the sketchbook and photo, I thought I'd start my contest page.

START?

It was completely finished within 1 1/2 hours!

Nothing preplanned- Nothing precut - Totally from scratch!!!!!

NOW I'm REALLY excited and anxious to do some more vacation scrapbooks!

Thank you for recommending this book.  It's a great time saver and only inspires great pages!

Scrap Happy,
Cindy Unruh

I asked Cindy which cartridge she wanted, and she requested "Mickey and Friends", which she should have received by now.

Congrats Cindy!

Choosing Layouts for Your Scrapbook Pages

hello

Example layout sketch from "Scrapbooking Bible" (see link at end of article)

So, you’ve bought all your scrapbooking gear, set up a space, researched scrapbooking techniques and now you’re ready to get started. Before you can start putting together your first layout, you have to actually choose one. This seems like a simple task, but there are so many styles and options it’s hard to know where to start. Here are some great ways to find possible layouts for your scrapbooks.

If you’re looking for possible layouts, the first place you should look is online. There are hundreds of scrapbooking websites, many with free layouts and how to guides on how to make them. Simple to complex, budget to expensive; there are ideas for every person and every occasion.

You can also find inspiration from scrapbooking layout sites and message boards. People can submit pictures of their layouts, which many do on a regular basis. This means there’s a constant supply of new layout ideas on virtually every topic (and every budget) you can think of. Plus people are usually nice enough to give you tips and tricks about how they put it together. One of the most popular scrapbooking communities is the Cricut community. Here, you can find layouts featuring the most creative and imaginative use of Cricut cartridges.

Books are a great place to get started while choosing a layout. With just a little searching, you can find books with hundreds of sample layouts. But there’s so much more you can gather from books than just layouts to copy. Many books help get you started on creating your own layouts by sharing scrapbooking philosophies and ways to spark your own imagination. You may even find inspiration from a book that has nothing to do with scrapbooking, like a beautiful picture, poem, or quote.

There is a great guide created by an expert scrapper, Jennifer Gormly, that literally has hundreds of scrapbook layout ideas. Scrappers that have seen this guide have been amazed at how much time it has saved and how much more fun they have at crop nights. Check it out here: 500 Scrapbook Layouts

If you want more original ideas without pulling them straight from a book, why not have a get together with friends and family who scrapbook? You can get ideas from their work, or they can give you tips on a layout you’re already working on. You never know, you may just get inspiration from a random conversation, story, or shared memory.

Sometimes the best layouts don’t come from friends or web pages; they come from you. Scrapbooks are supposed to showcase your life and interests, so why shouldn’t they come from your very own inspiration. If you feel like you can’t seem to come up with ideas, just get out your supplies and start playing. Soon you’ll find yourself with too many ideas for you to make.

Once you start working on layouts, be sure not to get carried away. You don’t need to have every idea all slammed into a few layouts. You can start simple with a picture, journal, and a small embellishment, then work your way up as you buy more tools and gain more skill. Remember that scrapping is an art, and sometimes simple is better.

P.S.  Ever since I got my "Scrapbooking Bible", I never sit down to scrap without it.  See my "Scrapbooking Bible" here

Cricut Ideas To Get Those Creative Juices Flowing

While making things is enjoyable, half the fun of owning a Cricut machine is thinking up the Cricut ideas!

There is so much to do and make with a Cricut machine so it’s no wonder that Cricut ideas generally come easy. Especially in regard to holidays, birthdays, weddings and any other special occasion, life offers plenty of inspiration. However, in between all of those memorable moments, some Cricut users hit a wall in terms of what to make next.

Where to find Cricut ideas?

Folders, files and boxes of ideas can be an excellent way to stockpile ideas for future projects.

In addition to creating personal ideas, there are countless websites that offer pages and pages of ideas given by Cricut experts as well as those solicited by Cricut users.

The actual Cricut site also has a collection of ideas. With over 200 projects listed, each comes with a detailed description and picture. Categories include kids, holidays, scrapbooking, home décor, crafts and paper crafting. Each project also features the author, estimated time for completion and level of difficulty.

While a detailed description can be extremely helpful, some users may work better with a step-by-step video. Yahoo, Google and YouTube each have a wide range of video tutorials on such topics as welding letters, feature keys and creating a cork board with a Cricut machine.

At times, users may find themselves with a shortage of Cricut ideas. When such a moment arises, take a look at the available resources and take advantage of everything, whether it’s an advanced project from Cricut or a brand new video on YouTube - they’re Cricut ideas.

Once you've got a great new idea for your next scrap project, remember to check all of the links on the right to see awesome deals on the cartridges you need!

(One of my personal favorites is the Storybook cartridge.)
